A GROUNDBREAKING new application has arrived on the iPhone and it is already making some interesting noises.
Well, literally actually, as that is exactly what it does, it makes noises a bit like birdsong. Although your first reaction may be that it sounds like a new version of twitter, actually it is more like an audio version of bit.ly.
What is Chirp?
Similar to bit.ly, you can add a web link to the app and it will convert this into a series of ‘chirps’ which represent the web link and if you ‘listen’ to these using the Chirp app, it will then allow you to visit the relevant web site.
Another cool feature is that you can host an image in the cloud and then the app will convert the web link that leads to this, into a ‘chirp’. When another phone hears this using the Chirp app, it shares the image with your phone and you can then save this to your phone’s camera roll.
How can I use Chirp for marketing?
For marketing, this could have lots of potential as scanning QR codes is still a bit clunky and with this you could simply add a Chirp audio file and drive traffic to your sites.
We forecast it won’t be long before you hear chirps in advertising slots.
If you want to see how it works, download the Chirp app for the iPhone and then play the file below to see what happens…
